Creative Marketing Resources, Inc. - 2019 Inc. 5000

For the Second Consecutive Year, Creative Marketing Resources Receives the Prestigious Inc. 5000 Award

MILWAUKEE (August 14, 2019) – Milwaukee-based communications firm Creative Marketing Resources (CMR) has been named to the prestigious 2019 Inc. 5000 list, marking its second consecutive year to receive the award. CMR is the only Milwaukee-area company in the advertising and marketing industry to make the list.

The Inc. 5000 list, started in 1982 by Inc. Media, is a prominent annual award that honors the fastest-growing, privately-owned companies in the nation. Companies such as Microsoft, Dell, Domino’s Pizza, Pandora, Timberland, LinkedIn, Yelp, Zillow, and many other well-known names gained their first national exposure as honorees of the Inc. 5000.

CMR was founded in 1995 as a multicultural marketing agency that primarily worked with local companies to better reach African American, Latino, and Asian American audiences. In 2013, CMR transitioned to become a total market, or cross-cultural, marketing agency.

The total market model is rooted in the simple business principle that the most effective marketing is the one that reaches the greatest share of consumers. Unlike the general market-multicultural binary that most agencies adopt, the total market model combines general market and multicultural insights and perspectives so marketing can be developed with the entire market in mind.

Since adopting the total market model, CMR has grown nearly 400 percent and conducts business with notable national clients such as GE Healthcare, UW-Madison, and the Air National Guard. Global corporations such as Coca-Cola, Walmart, and McDonald’s have also transitioned to the total market model. CMR remains Wisconsin’s only marketing communications firm that specializes in total marketing. The firm’s leadership believes that this distinction is one reason the company has achieved back-to-back placement on the Inc. 5000 list.

“Our transition to this model was purely out of business-focused logic. What was unexpected was how well this would be received,” said David Bowles, CMR’s Chief Strategy Officer. “Our clients understand that marketing that only reaches 70 to 80 percent of consumers doesn’t make dollars or sense. They’ve concluded that the total market model is the best way to expand their market share and increase their ROI. We look forward to continuing to grow with them.”

CMR is Wisconsin’s oldest and largest minority-owned full-service advertising agency, and the state’s only agency that specializes in what’s known as “cross cultural” or “total marketing.” This philosophy is rooted in the basic business concept that the best way to reach the greatest share of the marketplace is to create marketing that speaks to everyone. Since implementing this approach in 2012, CMR has quadrupled its staff and worked with a number of Fortune 500 companies, including GE Healthcare and Harley Davidson.
“The total market model is transforming the advertising industry because marketers realize targeting the general market alone can’t produce the same ROI,” said David Bowles, Director of Strategy and Planning. “We look forward to assisting our client partners in expanding their market share among the New American Mainstream.”
