How Do You Sell Safety?
The CDC contracted with CMR to execute a nationwide public information campaign to increase awareness concerning the importance of using NIOSH-approved personal protective equipment. Pre-campaign research revealed that one barrier to awareness was a large number of counterfeit products and misleading advertisements. As a result, CMR developed the message, “Know It’s NIOSH,” to creatively remind target audiences to look for the NIOSH “brand.” Using this theme, CMR then developed a number of communication materials, including: an electronic brochure, website banner ads, public and media relations, and “N95 Day,” a national social media recognition event. CMR’s efforts helped to drive awareness, as evidenced by the User-Notice webpage becoming one of the top 100 most-visited pages in government.
